Our story
From the time of its humble beginnings until now, St. Alphonsus has always been a church with faith-filled parishioners who were generous in doing the will of the Lord. Mrs. Amelia Landry, founder of St. Alphonsus, saw a need and followed that vision.
Being located in the center of a growing community, Fr. Mike Moroney also had a vision of how we could not only build the church, but foster a way to build “community”. It was through that vision the Festival of Two Rivers came into being. Having the space to facilitate such an event was one thing; having the desire to unite all neighboring citizens required endless hours of prayer and discernment, the trust of St. Alphonsus Parishioners that this vision could be fulfilled, and the drive and desire to see this thing through until it became a reality.
Now in our tenth year, the Festival of Two Rivers is a “common” term used amongst St. Alphonsus parishioners as well as folks in the Central and surrounding areas. Just after the first of the year and prior to Mardi Gras Season, we kick off this annual event with the auction, taste fair and $10,000 raffle. What a grand way to jump start the second phase of the festival – the parish fair which follows a couple of months later. It’s no wonder both the young and “the young at heart” look forward to spending time with family and friends and neighbors from our community at this event. It indeed has become a way many look forward to being able to “pass a good time, yall”.
